How do I properly fill a gasoline lighter?

Pull the inner insert (the inlay) out of the metal casing at the wheel. Turn the insert over and lift the felt flap on the bottom to expose the cotton. Slowly saturate the cotton with special lighter fluid until it is well moistened, but not completely soaked. Close the felt flap again and reinsert the insert into the casing.

Why doesn't my gasoline lighter work or only works briefly?

Besides an empty gasoline tank, the most common causes are the wick or the flint. First, check if a spark is generated when the friction wheel is turned – if not, you need to replace the flint. If the flame is weak, the wick is often sooty: Pull it out a short distance with pliers and cut off the burnt end.

Can the gasoline in a lighter evaporate even if I don't use it?

Yes, gasoline is a highly volatile fuel. Even with the cap closed, the gasoline will slowly evaporate over time through the fine gaps in the casing. With regular use, a full fill lasts about one to two weeks. If you haven't used the lighter for a while, you should simply refill it briefly before the next use.
